Help me give my students a clean and fresh library. The shelves and baskets will supply them with easy-to-find literature while the rug will give them a comfortable feel when searching for their "just right" book!
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. They are very diverse as our school services a coastal area that is rapidly growing and changing. Many of my students come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them come to school with few educational experiences other than what they receive within school walls and with concerns to meet everyday needs.
Many of them have become disengaged with reading or learning to read.
They need a reason to want to read again. They need to be motivated to use literature as a window to the outside world so they can become sponges and soak up as much information as they can. These shelves and baskets will help appropriately organize their classroom library.
My Project
After having broken book shelves for a few years, I decided to stop fixing them and ask for help to buy new ones. The rug that was in our library was old and stained! This fresh rug will give students a clean and comfortable feel while searching for their books.
The shelves, baskets, and rug will provide nice place for students to get cozy and read.
The students will use the baskets to find different genres of books that they are welcome to take home if they need a book.
