My Students
Our class motto is: Relentlessly Pursuing Excellence! Though we are a music class, we use music as a means to develop life skills like thinking and responsibility. We work as a team to create and enjoy high quality music.
Our school serves a high-poverty, at-risk student population in an urban setting.
With roughly 80% of our students on the Free & Reduced Lunch program, many students struggle to pay for instrument rental or supplies. That said, the students in the music program go beyond the excuses to find ways to reach their potential. They overcome diversity and adversity while supporting each other in achieving success.
My Project
The Yamaha Harmony Director Keyboard is a multi-function tool to maximize learning during our music rehearsals. In addition to functioning like a traditioinal keyboard, this device also employs one-button transposition, a complex metronome and settings to help us learn pitch and intonation. All that is music-speak that will develop musicians in our rehearsals and help kids grow.
This device will enable student musicians to develop their ears, instrument technique and musicianship.
Using it regularly in rehearsals will help us to play together as a group, to balance and blend with quality tone, and to foster a greater sense of the value and artistry of music.
