New Grade, New Needs: Autism Support Tools for Elementary Success

My Project

After several years supporting high school students with various, I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to transition into a elementary school setting. While my experience and passion for supporting neurodiverse learners remain the same, the tools and strategies I need must shift to meet the developmental needs of younger students. This project will help me set up a new space that's structured, supportive, and student-centered.

To build predictable routines and reduce anxiety, I’m requesting supplies to create and maintain visual schedules—a critical tool for students with autism.

These include schedule cards, hook-and-loop fasteners, and materials to personalize and adjust visuals easily.

Laminating sheets are essential to make these visuals durable and reusable throughout the year, especially in a fast-paced middle school environment.

Sticky notes in a variety of sizes and colors will help me label materials, provide visual cues, and organize workspace areas. They're also great for nonverbal communication between teacher and student.

Lastly, I'm requesting writing supplies such as pens, markers, and highlighters to help students complete work with clarity, organization, and visual emphasis—strategies that are often essential for learners with autism.

This move is a big change, and with your support, I’ll be able to walk into my new classroom ready to meet my students where they are—with structure, support, and compassion.
