My students need a collection of matching, bingo, and listening lotto games, as well as a storage unit that will provide easy access to all games by students and adults.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Growing up, we played games like Go Fish, Candy Land, and Monopoly. My students' ideas of games are solo endeavors via computer or a handheld device. The only games played with others are also electronic, such as X-Box or Wii. I'd like them to have access to the fun of old-fashioned card and board games.
I have 2 classes of 18 4-year-old's motivated to learn about everything.
They are enrolled in a School Readiness Language Development Program (SRLDP) whose participants are primarily English language learners qualifying for free lunch. The goal of this unique program is language development. Students receive instruction in their primary language, Spanish, as well as English language development.
When our school year began, the majority of my students were unfamiliar with card and board games. They quickly caught on and to my delight, are now hooked. Unfortunately, the only place I have to store our games is inside a cupboard and that is not conducive to daily play.
My Project
Matching games build skills of visual discrimination, problem-solving, and vocabulary development. Bingo and lotto games reinforce these as well, but also require students to practice patience as they wait for the unique items on their card to be called. The Nursery Rhymes Listening Lotto and Eric Carle Game Set are literature-based games that will provide some fun enrichment for my young learners.
While these games are designed to strengthen Pre-K concepts and skills, they also provide an opportunity for social development. Children will practice following directions, taking turns, dealing with disappointment, and winning gracefully.
I've requested a storage unit to house our collection of classroom games. Currently, they are in a cupboard that is not accessible to students. Once they've learned the rules by playing with an adult, I'd like them to be able to grab a game and a couple of friends for independent play.
One thing we learn by playing games is fairness.
It doesn't seem fair to introduce children to a game if they won't be able to play it again. An All-Purpose Storage Unit will house the games we currently play and have room for new games, too. Playing games facilitates cognitive development and builds social skills and that's a winning combination
