This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a first-year teacher, I will have the privilege of teaching a diverse group of biology students from South Central Los Angeles who are filled with curiosity and potential. I work at an urban school where students face challenges in acquiring basic school supplies like pencils, pens, and markers. To address this, I personally provide these supplies to ensure that my students have what they need in order to be successful in my class.
Drawing will play a crucial role in my STEM classes as it allows students to visualize and conceptualize complex scientific and mathematical concepts.
Therefore, pens, pencils, colored pencils, and markers will serve as invaluable resources for students as they build their science folders throughout the school year. Drawing promotes spatial reasoning, problem-solving skills, and enhances critical thinking abilities, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Furthermore, drawing enables students to communicate their ideas effectively, encouraging collaboration and innovation amongst my students.
As a new educator teaching in the Los Angeles area, I am still in the process of expanding the resources I can offer to my students. With your generous support, I will be a step closer in helping my students flourish both academically and personally as they grow in their STEM identities!
