I teach kindergarten at a large urban school district. Our school is a high-needs status school with over 90% of our students qualifying for free and reduced lunches.
Most of my students are English Language Learners from low income homes.
They are eager to learn and love school. Each school year class size seem to be increasing more and more. I am expecting 29 students in my class this fall. With the increase in class size I find that the furniture that I now have is too big and bulky for my students and consumes too much space.
My Project
The chairs that I am requesting are age appropriate. They are just the right size for the students that I teach. They will easily fit under the table and won't take up as much space as the chairs I currently have. This will also enable my students to move more freely around the room without having to worry about bumping into each other. The chairs I currently have are too big for my students. Students often tip back in them or do not sit in them safely because they are not comfortable for their bodies. This creates a safety concern for me as their teacher. If students are comfortable and at ease and have free space to claim as their own learning will be the same.
New chairs will benefit my students by keeping them safe and comfortable.
Students will be less distracted by having enough personal space and will be more likely to concentrate on a given task. Thank You for your support of this project!!!
