My Students
I work in West Philadelphia where the families have very limited resources to help support their children's literacy needs. After a year of not being in the building, my kids are so excited to jump back into learning but need some basic resources.
These kids need the essentials.
These students need everything from folders to pencils. Setting up a classroom in April is weird, but we can’t wait to get the ball rolling!
The students I teach are excited to learn and happy to be a part of our school community. However, materials and supplies are almost non-existent and need to be purchased by the teachers. Students here love to read and need all the support they can get.
My Project
Our center learning is a huge part of our daily routine. Students love when we go to our 'stations' to develop our math or literacy skills in these groups. When we pull together, the scholars collaborate with their classmates to improve an essential skill that they are working on.
It is important that we hone in on our children's critical thinking skills.
And It is within these smaller groups that I can work with one particular group at a time and specifically make sure they are developing an important skill that needs improvement. While I am doing this the other students are busy working on phonics puzzles, writing out their sight words on whiteboards, spelling with magnetic letters, or playing matching games to learn their sight words.
