I teach 5th grade in a public school that has a diverse population. Most of the students in our school come from low income families. My twenty-two fifth grade students work hard, are excited to learn new things, and all learn in a variety of ways.
Along with using whole group and independent learning, my students also often work together cooperatively in groups.
Most of my students love to read and like having other options for seating besides just their chairs at their tables.
My Project
I am requesting some new books for our classroom library. I chose four of the I Survived books because my students really enjoy those and look for them. They also really like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and I did not have any of those books in our library. We read biographies throughout the year, and my students like the Who Was series.
I also chose some colorful stools to use for our group table when they are working together cooperatively or with me for reading or math groups.
My students enjoy sitting on something besides their normal chairs at their table.
