This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school serves children from kindergarten through eighth grade. About 92% of the students in the school live at or below the poverty line. We are a full-service, inclusion school which means we teach all students with behavioral, social-emotional​, or learning needs.

Every day the morning announcements end with "What can you do today to make our school more kind, caring and inclusive?"

My classroom consists of 22 students. Seven of my students have Individual Education Plans (IEP) for a range of needs. More than half of my students are bilingual, and English is not their primary language.

My Project

This project consists of some new chapter books, social-emotional learning books, and math games to engage students as they transition back to the classroom full time. It has been over a year for some of my students since they have been in our school building and I want to make sure the room is equipped with some new materials to welcome them. This project includes high interest books for students to read. Many students have not had the opportunity to read any books since they have been learning from home.

New books and new math games are just what we need to officially welcome students into their third-grade classroom in April!

It has been a very long and challenging school year for many students and teachers and my goal is to create a warm, and welcoming classroom with some new materials.

Since the school closed down over a year ago, many of my classroom supplies have been sent home for students to use, which was awesome, but now the classroom needs some new materials. Math games would be a great interactive way to practice learned math skills and I always love to add new books to our classroom library! This project also has a wide variety of books to support inclusion, which our school is very supportive of. My goal was to also find books that represent the students in our classroom so that all feel welcome and represented in the class.
