My Students
My students are soon to be second graders who are from middle to lower-income families. We are from a Title I, inner-city school, where materials are often hard to come by. This, however, does not stop my students from loving to learn new things every day.
I am so lucky to have such a caring and imaginative group of students.
My students are always willing to work together to help their fellow classmates. I am lucky enough to be making the move to second grade with my current class. For another year, my goal will be to continue to grow their love of learning and their love of school, to make them even more successful in the future.
My Project
My current first graders and I are making the move to 2nd grade together. I am SO excited about this change, but there is one little problem. I have a classroom full of voracious readers. You might be thinking, "how is that a problem?" Well, please let me explain. My class has already read so many of our classroom library books and are always looking for more. New 2nd-grade level books are a must! These books will continue to keep my students interested in reading. My class is constantly getting lost in new stories; We love our read alouds, reading with a buddy, and reading independently.
Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and respect and my students are always so thankful for opportunities to read.
All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. We also voted on what types of books we wanted added to our library. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level. They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. Clearly, my soon-to-be second graders already love reading and I can't wait to be able to provide them with even more new stories to get lost in!
