Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello, I am a fourth and fifth grade teacher who is seeking for support to help my students learning through this difficult pandemic era. Like mentioned before I am currently teaching two grade levels at the same time. All my students come to class ready to learn something new and ready to enhance previous skills or lessons. What I like the most about my students is their perseverance and kindness. They each work together to help each other and they also like to show respect and kindness.
My fourth and fifth graders are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have such a great group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each day!
Our school is a free public school, and the majority of our students come from low socioeconomic status. In addition, we are a Title I School which means that we provide free meal plans to support our families' needs. My students are determined and spontaneous! They come to class ready to learn with enthusiasm and ready to take upon academic .
My Project
My students mean so much to me and this is why I am requesting some resources to help them read culturally responsive books. My classroom consists of Hispanic and African-American students who need to read books that represent them. For example, the two class book sets are written by African-American authors. As a kid, I was unable to find connections with great authors that represented my culture or who I connected with. New Kid, and One Crazy Summer, are both award winning novels that will inspire my students as they will see characters that look like them. In addition, all students will be able to find personal connections to the stories as they portray children their current age and issues that they face during upper grades like race, socio-economic status, and bullying.
