This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
6th grade students are at such a crucial and pivotal moment of their education; they are transitioning out of young childhood into early teenage years that are full of curiosity about the world, questioning their place in the world, and developing strong critical thinking skills.
My classroom is full of diverse learners who bring joy, enthusiasm, and tons of knowledge to our classroom.
They bring so much curiosity when exploring the world of microorganisms and natural climates in science; in history they practice critical thinking by analyzing ancient civilizations and asking questions about human history; in math, they develop foundational skills to help them be successful in high school in beyond; and lastly, they get to develop analytical and writing skills in Language Arts to prepare them to be ready to express their ideas.
My Project
In order for students to be able to process information, they need to be able read the information clearly. Currently, I have inherited a classroom that has poorly designed and old whiteboards that don’t erase and aren’t magnetic. This is problematic because as I write something, it leaves a visible, non-erasable stain. Due to this, any new information written down is barely legible with the stains in the background.
Having new, erasable whiteboards will make it easier for information to be posted and easily removed, so I can focus on teaching, and not figuring out how to convey information to students in a way that they can process and see. Additionally, having magnetic whiteboards makes it possible to post and take down information (such as visuals/images), without taking permanent space on the board. Any support in getting students the materials and set up they need (and deserve) is greatly appreciated.
