This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
One of the biggest challenges in my classroom is having all of my students prepared for the day. Students have a difficult time being successful when they do not have all of the necessary materials. My 30 students this year will be excited to have sharpened pencils and new markers and crayons!
This is my 11th year in 5th grade and I spend my own money to supply my students with supplies, materials, and books because they come from a community of high poverty.
Almost 100% of our students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Most of my students do not have all of their supplies for the entire year. Some come from single parent households or homeless shelters. I would like to provide them with their supplies so they are ready and motivated to learn, and so their parents do not have to stress out about getting their supplies.
My students become MY kids and I want to support them as much as I can so they feel motivated to succeed.
My Project
The pencils will be used by all of my students. I have 30 in my class and then I teach an additional 10-20 students for reading so I must supply them with pencils. The new crayons and markers will motivate them to create art projects to help make school fun and exciting. The organization bins will help us keep all of our materials readily available so we don't waste time looking for materials.
The donations will help my students see that there are many caring and generous people that have invested in their education.
My students do not always see the benefits that an education can give a person. Having these supplies for the beginning of the year will start my class off on the right foot! Thank you in advance for your generosity!
