My Students
I work in a New York City Title I middle school where every student receives free lunch. It is a great school where some students travel from far away just to be able to attend. My students are special education students, most of whom are English Language Learners. They are really great kids who love to learn. My students are hardworking, curious learners that need access to a variety of texts that will capture their interest and prepare them.
My Project
The class set of Stone Fox will help the students learn the theme of never giving up. This novel inspires students to be the best they can be! This is a classic novel that will get students motivated to read. Since all the students live in the big city of Brooklyn, NY, they will learn about life in Wyoming. Students will explore and compare the geographical setting of the story to their own. Students will be able to discuss the visual images they form of the characters and setting. They will also expand their vocabulary using words from the story.
This will be extremely beneficial since most of the students are English Language Learners.
