I teach in a low income school, but this doesn't mean my students don't want to learn. I see so many of them who can achieve so much if they had the support they need. I am so blessed to be the one who gives that support. All they need is someone to show them that they are loved and cared for. What do I love about my students? Their ability to come to school with a smile on their faces even though they face poverty and dysfunction at home. They come to school looking for the attention they crave from adults. I tried to give them as much love and support as I can to make them have the confidence to be successful readers.
My Project
Our school library has been closed since Hurricane Ida on August 29th. This means that my students and the entire school has not been able to check books out to read.
Hurricane Ida destroyed hundreds of books in our library, and these books will add to my classroom library to give my students more books to read.
It will remain closed for the 2021-2022 school year and will not be repaired until the summer of 2022, which means that our students only have the classroom libraries to choose books from. I have limited a limited number of books for my students to read.
