Our students come from several feeder schools entering a school that is brand new to each of them. We are a public charter school with ninety-six sixth graders. My ELA classes will have varying reading abilities so we will be using student choice and interest to guide our reading. To get to know each other, we want to foster relationships and provide excellent learning environments. They are making a choice to attend our school, and we want them to be proud of that decision!
My Project
My students have been browsing for new books that interest them for student-led literacy circles. As we build our classroom library, we need more high interest books. Students have asked for more realistic fiction books and books that complete series in our collections.
Why not fill the shelves with books that already have a seal of approval from students?
They selected these titles as books we need for them to have student choice, "just right" reading levels, and themes they will enjoy. As I strive to help students find their love for reading, I want to provide books they will enjoy.
