I teach in a rural community in eastern North Carolina. My students attend a Title I school where the majority of the population receives free/reduced lunch. This school year, I will be teaching 21 enthusiastic students.
Many of my students come from homes where computers are not deemed a necessity. As a result, many do not have access to computers outside of the classroom. With technology becoming more and more important in the working world each day, I want to give my students every opportunity available to use and learn with every piece of technology that they can. The best place they can start is with a computer.
In order to assist my students daily, I need two HP Minis (netbooks) to use in my classroom. I am blessed to have some desktops provided by my school, but I do not have enough in my classroom to give students ample opportunities at daily use. With the addition of 2 HP Minis, my students will be able to not only have access to computers on a more frequent basis, but also will able to be mobile in their uses. They will not be forced to sit at a desk, but rather will be able to take the netbook to where they need to work. This could be on a field trip or a scavenger hunt. The possibilities are endless!
By donating to this project, you are not only helping my current students in their pursuits of becoming technologically proficient, but also my future students. Technology is not going anywhere. If we want our current students to be prepared for their futures, it needs to start at early age. Why not start now?
