Negating Outdated Science

My students need engineering and STEM children's books representing diverse points of view, and hands on electronic parts for student inventors.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some students never get to experience science. They have science classes and worksheets, but actual science (questions, tinkering, experiments) they never get. My students lack interactive resources that allow them to 'do science.'

Our mid sized elementary school is in an urban district of Southern California.

We are a Title I school, the majority of the students receive free or reduced lunches. Most students live very close to the school. Every child is unique, and my students are not exceptions. Some students enter my class fully prepared for the rigor of school, while other students come in needing help to catch up. All my students benefit from repeated and frequent exposure to engaging material.

My Project

The two books requested offer unique perspectives on engineering. We will first make use of them as read-aloud. Students will then have access to them in our classroom library. They will be able to explore these engaging science texts at their own interest level. Each set of Little Bits is full of self discovery. The number of projects that can be made is endless, only limited by the imagination. Little Bits are perfect representations of actual circuits. Students will be able to use what they learn to immediately begin assembling breadboard circuits.

Supporting this project will mean so much to my students.

Fourth grade curriculum requires a solid foundation in magnetism and electricity. This project allows students to produce their own completely unique self-contained circuit. If you believe that it is important for students to actively participate in science, please consider donating. Thank you for your support.
