My Students

I teach in a K-5 elementary building. Our students are inquisitive and ask thought-provoking questions, with supportive parents. Typically most students who enroll in Kindergarten spend their entire elementary career within our school. We are a school that prides itself on PBIS implementation and family connection. My school has also recently implemented AVID, which places emphasis on college and career readiness.

All of these support systems allows students to feel supported and more willing to learn.

We are raising lifelong learners at my school!

My Project

We are in need of nonfiction! At my school, we have a fantastic library and supportive librarian. Students look forward to library every week and our students love to read. However, our nonfiction books are outdated and not engaging to students.

Students reading and comprehending nonfiction text has proven to be a school-wide weakness.

In order to make our students stronger readers of this genre, we need to update our library. Most of the nonfiction books are outdated and students will not read them.

We want to bring popular, recent titles into our library to get students excited about nonfiction texts. This project will bring in titles ranging from biographies, sports books, and animal books.
