I teach 23 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. My students come from working families that value education but do not always have the resources or educational background to provide reinforcement of skills learned at school. When they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn.
My Project
We need general supplies to make our classroom run smoothly. Year after year we work with limited supplies which hinders our academic progress.
I am amazed year after year at students performances and am constantly seeking resources that will both spark their interests and challenge them.We need stools to sit on at each station.
We need ink to copy various learning activities, passages and graphic organizers. Ink cartridges are used to print student papers, projects, premade games, flashcards and assignments. Expo markers are for student-created anchor charts and collaborative posters. All of these materials are needed to engage students in rigorous instructional activities.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
