Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager to learn and I am grateful for the opportunity to teach them. Our school serves primarily low-income families and the majority of my students are Hispanic. Many of the students live with one parent, or are cared for by grandparents or other relatives. It has been difficult to get quality instructional materials that go beyond the basic curriculum. They respond positively to information and experiences that provide learning opportunities outside of our normal routine agenda. I try to make school challenging, but fun. I want my students to look forward to coming each day, just like I do!
My Project
My students love to read. They especially love books and magazines that are colorful and belong to THEM!
These weekly current events and science magazines will provide wonderful, quality reading materials for my students, many who have very few, if any, family-provided books at home at all!
Each week, we will read the magazines together, building vocabulary and fluency. Then, the students can practice reading the magazines at home to a loved one or simply to themselves, providing countless hours of enjoyment.
Thank you to all who are willing to help my students cultivate a love for reading and learning, while at the same time building a "library" of engaging reading resources for them to call their own.
