My Students

We are an urban high school that has a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. We have serious attendance problems and many students who are not engaged in learning.

I have taught here for 18 years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified artistic experiences as I can.

At this point in the year, my students have acquired skills in hand building with clay and are now enjoying throwing on the potter's wheel. Working on the wheel is fun, fascinating, and engaging. I want to keep the momentum going.

My Project

In ceramics class, my students learn hand-building and throwing skills on the potters wheel. They have learned to apply glazes to finish and enhance their work.

The students are eager to continue working with clay and we are quickly using up all of our resources.

I want to keep them motivated and eager to learn more about throwing and glazing. The donation of these materials will help us keep working. I want students to research the works of ceramics artist and develop some of their own ideas in the second half of the year. The funding of this project will help to keep my students working creatively with clay.
