Need for Sensory-Friendly Seating in 7-12th Special Education Classroom
Please help me give my students bean bag chairs, bouncing/rocking chairs, and other flexible seating options to allow them to move as needed without disrupting the learning environment.

I am reaching out to seek support for a project dedicated to enhancing my students' social, emotional, and academic well-being. As an educator working with students with learning disabilities in a general education setting, I witness their daily challenges. Many of these students are considered "at risk" and "require "additional social and emotional support to succeed in the classroom. What they need most, however, is an environment that fosters acceptance and understanding.
Research consistently shows that when students' emotional well-being is prioritized, their academic performance improves.
To better support my students, I am creating a "cool-off area" within my classroom—a dedicated space where students can regulate their emotions, manage stress, and refocus. This quiet and comfortable sanctuary will provide a much-needed outlet for students experiencing emotional highs and lows.
Traditional classroom seating—hard plastic chairs with metal legs—can be a source of distraction, especially for students with autism and ADHD who require movement to stay engaged. Flexible seating options such as bean bag chairs, rocking chairs, and bouncing chairs will allow students to self-regulate without disrupting their peers.
My classroom serves students in grades 7-12, all of whom have IEPs and come from diverse backgrounds. In addition to academic challenges, they navigate personal struggles related to self-esteem, social adjustment, and emotional regulation. When students' mentstudents' needs are met, they are more focused, calm, and ready to learn.
To bring this vision to life, I am requesting donations for the following items: chair bands, Rocking/Bouncing Chairs, Bean Bag Chairs, and
a Pea Pod Chair. These resources will allow students to decompress, regain focus, and fully engage in their learning experience. By fostering an environment that prioritizes both their emotional well-being and academic success, we can ensure that all students have equal opportunities to thrive.
