My Project
This project impacts students by providing alternative seating options to the traditional hard, plastic chairs my classroom currently has. Students are expected to sit in these chairs all day, in every class. This can be extremely tedious and feel very uncomfortable by the end of the day, meaning this can create behavior issues towards the end of the day when we still have core classes they are expected to be engaged in.
Allowing students to have various seating options in the classroom provides a break from the hard plastic chairs they sit in all day elsewhere; it helps them to stay focused and engaged in their learning throughout their school day.
Specifically, the wobble seats supports students who are struggling to stay focused - it's a fantastic option for students who have ADD or ADHD as the movement they are able to have helps them to stay focused. This means that distractions for them are cut down and I can continue teaching seamlessly without having to address any behavior issues.
The floor cushions allow students to work or read around the classroom comfortably, whether they choose to sit or lay on the floor when they have time to work on assignments.
These alternative options create an atmosphere in my classroom that students look forward to. This lends itself to creating a space where students want to be and will be more engaged and excited to learn, all while diminishing behaviors that arise from the need to move or sit differently.
