My students need necessities for learning; two sets of books to improve literacy, a pencil sharpener, dry-erase markers, sharpie markers, tape, erasers, binder clips, hand sanitizer and construction paper for culminating activities after reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are learning to love to read! Already, we have read two chapter books and the students are already making requests for the next book. As Dr. Seuss says, "The more that you read. The more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!"
I teach special education to a group of extremely motivated young people.
They each have individual education plans but the one thing that they all have in common is their love of reading. They are inquisitive young thinkers that are really learning to identify with the characters that they are reading about. After reading they are doing projects which evaluate what they have learned through the process of reading. They are making tremendous progress!
Our school is located in Bridgeport, CT. We are a wonderful school that emphasizes the importance of reading! During announcements every day, our principal reminds the students to, "read, read, read!" She doesn't have to remind my students because they come in to my room focused and excited about picking up where they left off the day before.
My Project
The books that I have requested are books that the students themselves have asked for! In special education, it is so important to tap into a child's prior knowledge, and also peak their curiosity. They enjoy books about overcoming adversity because they can identify with some of the obstacles the characters have endured.
While reading, we discuss many common core standards and we cite evidence from the text when we are writing our responses. In addition, we have real discussions about how the characters feel and what we would do in the same situation. It is so interesting to hear their responses and see the projects they create because they are focused and interested in the material.
These donations will have a profound impact on the learning in my classroom because they won't be bored with the material... instead they will be engrossed and focused.
I have very limited resources in our department of special education and I am often borrowing resources from other teachers. Rarely, if ever, do the students have new materials to choose from. I am certain that my students will be extremely grateful and humbled by your generosity if you donate to our cause! I know I will be!
