This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I would love to be able to offer the digital platforms called Nearpod and Flocabulary for my students. Now that students have returned to the classroom we are in a 1:1 device setting which has many possibilities to infuse technology. However, sometimes technology can also be a distraction. Through Nearpod and Flocabulary I would be able to make sure that 100% of my students are engaged on the task at hand. We can chat, collaborate and ask questions and polls. Currently, it is difficult for me to determine who is right with me and who is feeling like they are drowning but don’t want to speak up. In Spanish, we have so many questioning opportunities as we learn a new language. Therefore, having the features in Nearpod such as Drag and Drop, Matching activities, gamified learning and collaborative boards would expedite our learning, making our class time together more meaningful and efficient. Things like virtual field trips can make Spanish speaking cultures come alive for my students. Nearpod and Flocabulary can help bridge my gap and be better suited to meet the needs of my students. Nearpod also has many ways I can differentiate the content I am delivering to my students while using multiple modalities of practice. Currently, I am using the free version, but that only allows up to 5 active presentations at a time. Last year 75% of students at my school were chronically absent. Therefore, being able to utilize all of the features in Nearpod platinum and Flocabulary would be a game changer for my students.
