This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I’m moving to second grade next year with my current class of first graders. I’m so excited to have them for two years!

Since we will be returning to the same classroom next year, I want to change the learning environment to make it seem new and fresh.

This summer I will collect beautiful items from nature to create a calm, non cluttered space that is conducive to learning. I’m picturing more wicker baskets for storing items and less plastic. Collections of sea shells, turtle shells, shark jaws, feathers, etc.. to stimulate curious minds will be artfully displayed.

Our classroom carpet needs to be replaced in order provide my students with the relaxing classroom I’m trying to create. Our current carpet It is a hand me down that is beyond worn out. It is also covered in stains from literally hundreds of shoes walking on it for the last several years.

So much learning takes place on a classroom carpet. We gather there multiple times daily for stories, literacy instruction, independent literacy activities, social emotional learning and more.

I’ve selected the perfect rug for the students. It is large enough for us to gather and learn without being too crowded, it’s soft and clean, stain-free, and visually stimulating without being too distracting. The rug is green with a leaf design.

I’m hoping with your support I can create a learning environment that my students can thrive in. Thanks for reading about ways you can help them.
