Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is my 10th year teaching. This year I am teaching AP Biology, Honors Biology and CP Biology. I am also advising the Eco Mindfulness Activities and Crafts Club and Garden Club. Mental health is extremely important for students to address and they need to feel supported. These items will help create a relaxed and supportive environment for students to feel comfortable with themselves to both learn and express themselves.

They need nature inspired ceiling filters, plants, strip lights, and plant hooks to create a place where they can feel calm and relaxed.

Imagine walking into a classroom where there is greenery on the ceiling and in the windows. The wall hooks will help display the plants in the project. Studies have shown that classroom “house” plants can filter the air and support a person’s well being. In addition, the students can use the plants to propagate and for photosynthesis labs. The leaf ceiling filters will help filter out the blaring and bright, light. The LED strip lights and a dimmer lighting will reduce stress as the students learn.

The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card and colored pencils will be used to print out nature inspired greeting cards. The students will write positive notes to their peers in our lunch time Garden Club meetings to help support each other and build and improve friendships. We used the last TPT gift card to purchase garden inspired Valentine’s Day greeting card templates and they were great hit to spread positivity and cheer. The sodium arginate will be used to make various kelps beads for different arts and crafts projects. Students can use different paint colors that we already have and the sodium arginate to create their own wishing or snow globes with jars we have recycled.
