This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In the upcoming school year, I plan to integrate science and English Language Arts through a creative, cross-curricular project designed to deepen students’ understanding of natural resources while strengthening their narrative writing skills.

Students will begin by selecting a natural resource they have studied in science.

Using this resource as the basis for a unique superpower, each student will create an original superhero character. The way the power is used—and how it shapes the character's actions—is entirely up to the student, encouraging creativity and individual expression.

As part of the project, students will develop a comprehensive character profile and origin story, applying key literary elements such as characterization, setting, plot, and conflict. They will also be required to accurately incorporate scientific knowledge of their chosen natural resource, demonstrating how it informs the superhero’s abilities in a believable and meaningful way.

This project aims to synthesize content knowledge and literary analysis while fostering imagination, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary connections.
