Natural Beautiful Brains

Help me give my students the gift of focus, originality, and critical thought. Without cell phones students will be more focused. Without the no use artificial intelligence, they will use their own natural beautiful brains for critical thought!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that my students can admit they are addicted to their phones. At the beginning of this schools year, I had some of them begging me to confiscate their phones so they could concentrate. This school year I was reactive with the cell phone possession in class. It was expected that students were forbidden to have their phone, however, they could not help but to sneak it in their pockets or laps. I would constantly walk around taking phones, placing them in a brown paper lunch bag, write their name across the bag, and lock away in my desk drawer. It did the trick, but the task was daunting. The students can control their own focus when they are constantly being pulled with a ding or buzz of their phone.

Helping my students focus is my top priority.

If they can focus, then they can begin to excel in concentrating on details, expanding their minds creatively, becoming more self reliant, and being less reliant on ChatGPT or Google. They can awaken as a natural beautiful human being while they study human beings through literature.

For the 2025-2026 schools year, I would like to be proactive and have a designated place where students will store their phones. Allowing them to charge their phones may also be an incentive to giving up their phone during class time.

I anticipate a resistance from my students. It's natural to resist a new habit. Perhaps it will be challenging for them to buy into the new expectation, but I am willing to see it through in order to see my students reach their full potential. I want them to experience the freedom and joy a challenge and the joy of discovery!
