This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come to school every day, ready to learn and explore! We have a brand-new remodeled garden space with metal raised beds. Our school garden needs native plants! We chose a selection of plants that thrive in dry soil to reduce watering that needs to be done. We have had a garden for over 10 years at our school. In this time, we have learned what has worked and what has not! Our school is located in a section of the city that lacks a tree canopy. Native plants are plants that have evolved to adapt to our climate. We chose the Drought Defender plant kit to help conserve water. We chose the Balcony Bloom plant kit for small garden space. Choosing native plants from Garden for Wildlife will help to reintroduce biodiversity to our school garden!
