I teach Language Arts to three classrooms of third graders. The students come from lots of different cultures, family, structures and economic situations. They are enthusiastic learners and each one brings something unique to the situation. My students don't always have the means to have access to these types of materials, so I would like to ask your help. I want to give my students lots of choices and opportunities that they may not always get and enrich their live.
My Project
The ultimate goal of this project is to teach kids to be able to find information within a book through improved reading comprehension and vocabulary. I will work with small groups of students reading the set of books and working on reading fluency and comprehension. Next, students will be given options for individual extended learning projects. They will work on researching their topics and writing. Students will present their projects to small groups of peers or the whole class. The National Geographic book sets allows students to do all this. These books also take students to a place they may not be able to experience on their own.
