My Project

I am seeking National Board Certification. The National Board is recognized as the “gold standard” in teacher certification. The National Board “believes higher standards for teachers means better learning for students.” The assessment for certification is grouped into 4 components, and each one costs $475. I am seeking certification in one year, which means I will need to buy all 4 components this year, which equals $1900. The components will address my content knowledge, differentiation in instruction, teaching practice and learning environment, and effective and reflective practitioner. The process requires a thorough demonstration of my teaching through video recorded samples, student work samples, demonstration of my knowledge of students and strategies for lesson planning as well as an assessment of my content knowledge. This process will help me grow professionally as I self reflect on my skills and strategies in teaching. As I evaluate learning strengths and needs of students, I will see how I best need to differentiate and modify instruction. I will also watch my recordings and reflect on my practices for the most student engagement. I will also collaborate with colleagues, parents/guardians, and the community to best know my students and to assess them based on that knowledge. I look forward to this process. I have been teaching for eighteen years, and I value the opportunity to grow more in my abilities as an educator.
