This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are instituting a cross-curricular, project-based night program. Our projects include public speaking, an important 21st century skill. We need a digital camcorder with excellent sound and digital capabilities so we can provide immediate visual and audio feedback.
Our students include at-risk students, young parents, and those with limited or interrupted education.
Many of them are also second-language learners--English is not their first language, They are hands-on and visual learners, and they would benefit greatly from being able to watch and listen to recordings of their public speaking.
My Project
By researching, writing, producing, and editing their own newscasts on current events and science for a particular country, our students will gain a broader perspective of our globalized world while gaining content knowledge in geography, science, and written and oral communication. By editing their own video, they will develop important technology skills, which will give them an edge, whether they enter the workforce or college after graduation.
Our students deserve high-quality recording equipment.
We have used our existing equipment in the past, and the poor sound and video quality took away from the students' experience of watching themselves, reflecting, and growing from that experience. We want the focus to be on what the students are doing and not the camcorders' inferior sound and video capabilities. We expect them to do their best, and we want to give them the best.
