Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My 8th graders are part of an urban school in a high poverty area. They are also bilingual students and learn best by doing to understand science concepts. 8th grade is a time students often show less interest in science so engaging them in their learning helps them continue to learn science that relates to their lives.

Lab activities are additional experience beyond student textbook learning; but I must print out this great lab from an Internet site. Budgets do not allow me to print multiple sheets per person per activity for each classroom; so this activity would not be possible without being able to reuse one set of printed materials....hence the need to laminate the sheets.

Resources are limited; so being able to laminate the activity sheets and "matte" for testing mystery powders will allow me to have one set of papers for all my classes. This allows me to offer this activity to all 8th grade classes instead of a select group. This activity is highly engaging and moving so it's a great way to teach students how they can act like scientists as they determine physical and chemical properties of matter.

8th graders need to do science first hand to learn science more successfully and to be able to see how it relates to their lives. Your donation will allow them to be engaged scientists.
