My Students

A typical day in my 12/1/1 self-contained classroom can be demanding and stimulating. My days are spent constantly redirecting my students' behaviors, teaching to meet the academic needs of each individual student, and giving out rewards. The supplies will enhance their critical thinking skills.

My students are incredibly wonderful.

They each have different needs ranging from academic to behavior and social emotional needs. To add to that situation, our school has a very high poverty rate. The majority of our students are homeless and live in shelters. Our school has over 900 students from various diverse backgrounds. With that being said, my scholars are hard at work in Applied Learning skills and Art illustrations so they can be college and career ready, but they just need basic working supplies like Wide-Rule paper and Sheet Protectors to facilitate their learning outcomes.

My Project

I am requesting 15 packs of Wide-Ruled Filler Binder Paper and 3 boxes of Sheet Protectors. The biggest challenge in helping to change the lives of my students is the lack of money or resources to buy well needed classroom materials especially Wide-Rule binder paper and Sheet Protector. They will use the Wide-Rule paper for practicing skills in all subject areas from classroom assignments like the writing process to take home assignments to complete and return the next day in the Sheet Protectors. As a special education teacher, I believe that "Empowering Students Through Art" is extremely essential in developing my students' critical thinking skills. My students very often must illustrate his or her own thinking on a given writing assignment.

My wonderful students will use the materials to support them in progressing towards meeting the common core standards.

Some of those areas include writing in reading literacy, math, informational writing and completing reading responses to be career and college ready.
