This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a culturally diverse neighborhood in Florida. Many of the students at our school come from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Columbia, and Mexico. More than 90 percent of students that attend our school qualify for free and reduced lunches. Many come from monolingual homes where both parents work to support their family. Some students take care of younger siblings after school while their parents work. For these students, education is their family's top priority and a way to break the cycle of poverty.

My Project

We all know that times have changed due to Covid-19. Parents are nervous about sending their children back to school. Sharing supplies puts children at risk of sharing their germs as well. I'd like to help put parents' minds at ease by providing their child with everything they will need to be successful in 3rd grade this year.

Every student will be welcomed with two supply bags; one with pencils, pens, highlighters, and sticky notes and one with a white board, marker and eraser.

These items will be labeled with their very own name so they know that it belongs to them. If they must quarantine they will be able to take their supplies home so they can continue to learn.
