My Project
This is my second year teaching creative writing. We are reading "The Poet X." My students are from a similar background as the protagonist in the story. In the novel she receives a gift from her twin brother.
"The notebook wasn't the regular marble kind most kids use...The cover was made of leather...this was the first time somone gave me a place to collect my thoughts.
In some ways, it seemed like he was saying that my thoughts were important." I asked my students if they had a place to put their thoughts, if they ever felt like someone was saying their thoughts are important. They said "no."
I want them to know their thoughts matter. I want them to have a safe place to process their emotions and their thoughts.
