This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow." -John Dewey
Technology is all around us. It's important to incorporate technology into the classroom.
I am a Special Education Teacher working in an overcrowded low-income school in Chicago.
I have students with various disabilities (Autism, Cognitive Disabilities, Developmental Delay, Sensory Processing Disorders, and Down Syndrome). Most of the students are nonverbal and require visuals in order to communicate. I need a new fun, innovative way to teach reading while incorporating technology in the classroom.
My Project
I have purchased language development apps and apps that could be used with the majority of my students with special needs. The students will have the opportunity to use the iPad to communicate, listen to educational songs, and learn their shapes, numbers, and letter sounds. The possibilities are endless when using technology. There are various apps that students would use to practice answering basic questions which is something that students with special needs often find challenging. Students will not only learn how to use technology but would benefit from the educational applications.
My students love technology!
Having another iPad in my classroom will encourage and motivate my students to participate in classroom discussions because it will help with their language development.
