Year after year, my students say that their favorite unit is the "health bar" unit. Students use a website to design health bars for patients or rescue workers, who have different needs, using different ingredients.
Students want to make their health bar, but my curriculum doesn't give me the materials in order to make that happen.
Students build health bars with dark chocolate chips, puffed wheat, puffed rice, pumpkin seeds, nutritional yeast, raisins, prunes, nonfat milk powder, and soybeans. Students mix their ingredients in a bag and they add some honey to glue the bar together. Its also their opportunity to discover the difference in a taste score of 10 compared to 1. I've gotten feedback from families that their students have requested they get the ingredients so they can continue eating their health bar at home.
