My Students
My students come from low to very low-income neighborhoods around San Francisco. After 19 years in education, I am trying to shake up my curriculum for next year and years to follow, in an effort create a more engaging and culturally relevant learning environment.
One of the ways in which I am working towards this goal is by switching out one our classroom novels for Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give.
This novel is so engaging, powerful, and I believe incredibly relevant to my students, especially in our current times. Please help me and my students by donating!
My Project
I teach 9th Grade English in a low to very low-income community, and we often need help getting the materials that would truly benefit our gifted, creative, inquisitive children.
After 19 years teaching, I wanted to shake up my curriculum in several ways, starting with Angie Thomas's bestseller, The Hate U Give.
If you know anything about this powerful novel, it deals with issues of class, race, police brutality, meaningful protest, and other heavy topics my students deal with in their own life, all from a teenager's prospective. Help us bring new fervor to this year's curriculum with this incredibly relevant novel!
