Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with the most amazing kiddos. They are smart, hardworking and beautiful young people. They also happen to have learning differences and need more support to access the general education curriculum.

Each of my students has an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Each IEP is a plan that includes goals and accommodations to help a student meet individual outcomes or goals beyond their current skills.

Additionally, my students live in East Oakland, California, and face many obstacles including poverty, homelessness, learning English, drugs, and violence. Despite all of these factors working against them, they continue to preserve by attending classes, engaging with their peers, and working towards a better future for themselves and their families.

In the new age of distance learning, I am doing everything I can to make learning accessible to my students through a virtual platform. My days are filled with: making videos, building online classrooms, developing new online lessons, and facilitating Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings with parents and families to ensure that their children are getting the appropriate supports while in school to be successful.

My Project

My students who are in the special education (Resource Program) deserve an education that is on par with their general education peers.

Currently, I am using a non-touch screen computer and this is hindering my ability to teach my students Math.

I am not able to efficiently guide my students in solving math problems because it is difficult to draw using the trackpad.

It is frustratingly slow for myself and students to show work while solving math equations. I know that having a touch screen tablet will help me attend to my students' needs more quickly. I'll be able to use two screens to make class time run more smoothly. The added features that an Ipad has will allow me to do more activities with students that Chromebooks simply can't do.

Your donation will help my students get the education that they deserve. This technology update will not just make class time more productive for my students, it will create opportunities for them to become positive members of our community.
