My Students are Sharp!... It's Sad Our Pencils Aren't
My students need pencil sharpeners and pencils to help them learn throughout each and every day!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"My pencil broke again!" "There are no more sharpened pencils." "Can I go next door to sharpen my pencil?" "crack (a pencil breaking) Ugh, NOT again!" These are the common catch phrases of my classroom, where we go next door to sharpen our pencils at the "good" pencil sharpener.
The students in my class are from various backgrounds where many of them worry about "adult" issues like taking care of their siblings when they get home and how their mom will buy them the supplies they need for class.
School is a place where they can escape these worries. A worry of a pencil breaking should not be on that list!
A typical day in our classroom begins with one or more of my students going around school to find a sharpener that works to sharpen the pencils for the day. We do end up having semi sharp pencils... but it's not good news if a pencil breaks throughout the day!
My student are very caring and will do anything for a friend! They always lend their pencils to help each other learn! They will always think of others, and I want to show them how much I appreciate them by having tools in our classroom to help their day be less stressful! And a pencil sharpener that actually sharpens pencil, will be appreciated by them!
My Project
The students in my classroom will be sharpening experts knowing their drive for learning will have them thinking about the multiplication and division problem rather than the "pencil breaking problem". In our class we will take the new pencil sharpener and our old one along with the many hand sharpeners and we will experiment with how effective they are against one another in a true "real world" science experiment. The students will show their enthusiasm for this sharpener every day by their smiles and excitement for learning!
Worries... NOT anymore!
The students in my class will worry no longer about the silly sharpener when they hear the dreaded "crack" of their pencil lead. The sharpeners and pencils will help the classroom system run more smoothly and time will be back on our side to learn, learn, learn!
