Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of prek through 5th graders who are working so hard to be better communicators! I want to give them all the tools they need to meet their speech and language goals.
All of my students receive free lunch and many come from homes where their primary language is not English.
My Project
My students all have disabilities that affect their ability to communicate including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Articulation and Language Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, and Learning Disabilities.
My students have unique communication needs and often require communication boards and materials created specifically for them.
Some of my students use signs, pictures, and both low-tech and high-tech communication devices to communicate in their classroom, at home, and in the community. With the materials that I can create or purchase online, I can make visually stimulating supports such as schedules, communication boards, adapted books, and pictures to support my emerging communicators.
I am a speech-language-pathologist and we do not get a budget for supplies. With a color printer and ink, I can print materials to facilitate their communication. Providing visually stimulating materials to my students helps them to comprehend the world around them. It gives them the ability to communicate their wants and needs and participate at school, in their home, and in their community.
