This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every kid loves science! However, waiting for the science teacher to set up the lab for her next class can be harrowing for the students and the teacher. Having a place to house the lab materials for the next class would allow students to make the best use of their time in the lab.

The students at our school come from very diverse backgrounds.

More than 19 languages are spoken within our school community alone. Eighty percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Our school serves grades PK-4. The students love science and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to do science daily.

My Project

In our district daily science is an expectation! Students conduct inquiry science both in the classroom and in the science lab. The problem arises when several different grade levels are scheduled to come to the lab on the same day but doing different investigations. By having lab carts available with materials needed for grade level labs, I will be able to transition to different labs effortlessly, leaving more time for students to do hands-on science. The lab carts will also make it possible to move to classrooms to conduct inquiry based instruction away from the lab.

Science is the future for many students.

By having the opportunity to experience the wonders of science, many of our students will also be exposed to the chance to change the world through science. Doctors, engineers, astronauts and science professors...who knows what the future holds for the young inquiring minds in the elementary science class?
