My Students
"My pencil is dull! My pencil is broken! Can I sharpen my pencil again? Does someone have crayons I can borrow? Has anyone seen any colored pencils?"
My students are very high energy and excited about learning.
We are in a rural part of southern Georgia and most of my students receive free/reduced lunch. There are not many families that have extra money for food, let alone school supplies.
In my classroom we have a wide variety of backgrounds and abilities, but our commonality is definitely a financial one. I don't believe that the kids should be limited in the classroom because their families are unable to buy school supplies or because the state has redirected funds away from the school system.
The potential in my classroom is amazing... these kids are going to do great things... they just need extra help getting started!
My Project
The goal of every teacher is for the day to start off smoothly. We work on routines and procedures repeatedly until our students know exactly what we expect. Part of the morning procedures for my classroom includes sharpening 2 pencils. This is generally the part that causes a major hiccup in our morning starting out smoothly.
Frustrated students leads to a frustrated teacher and a very tense classroom environment. Your help in purchasing two new pencil sharpeners and a year supply of pencils, colored pencils, and twistable crayons (that don't need to be sharpened) from QUILL will help my class get off to the smooth start that is necessary to begin our day.
Having two sharpeners will allow the sharpening process to take less time, allowing students more time to work on assignments. It will also mean less time I spend stressing about how to get pencils for 27+ students sharpened. Help us start our day in a peaceful way!
Your help in purchasing classroom pencil sharpeners and writing supplies from QUILL will positively affect the learning environment for my students and me.
A smooth start to our day helps set the tone for the rest of the day. Having effective sharpeners means that my students and I will have one less hiccup to interrupt our morning routine. The parents are not able to buy school supplies and with more budget cuts expected in our district, I can no longer buy supplies for my entire class.
