This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My oruguitas are in need of basic supplies for learning. What’s an oruguita, you may ask? A caterpillar! I call my students this because like the caterpillar, they will be working hard to grow and transform into their higher selves (mariposas) as we work on our Español y escritura. Anything helps!
Our bilingual classroom is composed of English Language Learners, Spanish Language Learners, and students with special needs.
Many are at various levels in their learning and benefit from a lot of opportunities to use technology to further their language acquisition skills.
We will be using these Kindle Fire tablets to help us in learning English/Spanish by using Duolingo. I plan to have my oruguitas rotate in stations so that every child gets at least 2-3 times a week on there. I also plan to have high interest, virtual books available through Epic Books. These books are interesting, engaging, and also has an extensive Spanish library! I hope that by having this technology in addition to explicit instruction, my students language acquisition will be rapid and fun!
