My students need basic supplies, since they have had substitute teachers since September. As a brand new teacher beginning mid-year, our classroom is lacking many necessary resources they need to succeed such as paper, dry erase markers, dry erase sleeves, and a pencil sharpener.
My classroom is a 12:1:1 class with students ranging from 6th to 8th graders. We are part of the New York City Department of Education located in Brooklyn, NY. Our school is part of District 75, which serves students with moderate to severe disabilities. My students are all beautiful, inside and out, and I want to make their classroom a beautiful learning environment for each and every one of them. My classroom is made up of 12 amazing children with various disabilities including autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other developmental and cognitive delays.
My Project
My new classroom needs a lot of love! As a brand new special education teacher beginning mid-year, our classroom is limited on many basic supplies and resources. Teaching in a classroom of 12 students with various disabilities including autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, as well as other developmental and cognitive impairments, my students need many basic supplies necessary for them to succeed. I've requested several basic classroom necessities, including paper, dry erase markers, dry erase sleeves, and a pencil sharpener. I've also requested visual pocket charts, such as a daily schedule and classroom jobs. These help my students stay on task and follow routines. Visual resources are a necessity for almost all of my students. We would also like to create a safe, comfortable break area where the students can relax, read, and reflect when they are feeling overwhelmed. I've included a carpet and bean bag share to help us create this space. Any donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
