My Most Struggling Students Need Books They Can Relate To
My students need 3 copies of each of Dave Pelzer's installments in the A Child Called It series.

My Students
My students are starting to WANT to read -- even outside of school! -- because, in addition to helping them grapple with challenging, whole-class texts, my classroom library invites them to dive into the wide, deep world of self-selected reading.
The problem is, I have more than a few students who are stuck in a state of waiting until So-and-So is finished with Such-and-Such hot title.
After all, the most popular books are always checked out!
This causes eager teen readers to lose momentum in their self-selected reading lives, and, too often, I see this loss of momentum act like a splash of water on a tiny fire. When a teen hears her friend raving about a book, I want that book to be there, waiting on the shelf for her.
Unfortunately, it's often checked out.
But, there is a solution: having multiple copies of the most popular titles. And that's where YOU come in, dear donor!
My Project
My students need multiple copies of Dave Pelzer's heart-breaking memoirs; each year, I see Mr. Pelzer's books change lives.
Multiple copies of the hottest texts will result in kids having instant access to the books their friends are raving about, and it will allow for buzz to build in the classroom as multiple kids are engaged in the same self-selected texts at the same time.
In our instant gratification society, the sets of popular titles I'm asking for will be able to compete with tantalizing, ever-present distractions like smartphones and video games.
I am hopeful that you can contribute to making my classroom library a truly addictive one, book by book.
When we're done, it's going to be awesome: Each title will have multiple copies instead of one, and the likelihood that lifelong readers will be born in my room will increase dramatically!
Thank you so much for your generous donation; my students and I are in your debt.
