This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom lacks a comfortable area where small groups of children can spend time working on their math skills. Our school did not meet the AYP for math last year and this cannot happen again. With a small group table, I can focus more attention on each students to help then master math skills.
My students are English Language Learners and regular education students.
Most of them are for low income homes and they are really enjoying the year. I want to make sure they are inspired to close the learning gaps in the area of math by giving them a self to the world experience in math. Research shows that the small group setting is the most effective way to teach children. We have more students this year, and the budget is tight. There was not enough supplies to go around, I need to create a small group area in my classroom where small groups of children can be taught in isolation.
My Project
These materials will be used to help all of my students rotate in small groups to me every day. Imagine, a classroom with only five students. For at least thirty minutes a day, I will have one to one contact with all of my students. Our classrooms need to have a smaller number of students, but an area where a child can experience a block of time each day to help students is the next best thing. I will be working on various math skills while the other students will be working at various work stations. This small group table will allow me to have more room and give my students more confidence to ask questions because they will be in a smaller setting for a designated time every day.
There are more and more immigrants coming to our country and the only way we can make sure that every child is given the best opportunity to learn is to teach them in a small group setting.
This cozy little table, easel and math materials will help me to target the math skills deficit and reach all of my students.
